The Chronicles of Brody

I have decided to keep a journal of sorts on our new puppy Brody. I am no writer and my editing skills are lacking so keep that in mind when you read this but here are the trials and tribulations that come with raising an American Bulldog/Pit Bull Mix puppy.

A lot of Bark and Very Little Bite

The Brody Man, as we have come to call him, is now 9 weeks old and weighs 18lbs.  He is going to be a big boy!  Keep in mind that just 3 weeks earlier at his 6 week appointment he weighed 9 lbs.  I think it must hurt to grow this fast.  But he seems to be doing okay.

Now, that being said he may be a big boy but he is still a little scared baby.  Him and Roscoe have really begun to play well together in the last couple weeks.  Their play includes a lot of loud playful growling, biting each other on the neck, and barking  The barking is usually from Brody.  It is very noisy when they play but I am just happy they are getting along.  I have even caught them sharing the same bed a few times.  But Roscoe is definitely the Alpha dog and when he is done playing he lets Brody know and Brody usually runs scared into the bedroom.  Just the other day he was with Keith in the front yard and when I pulled in the driveway he again ran scared into the bedroom.  If anything scary ever happens in the bedroom (his safe place) I have no idea what the little guy will do.

Brody is still coming to work with me.  He is almost ready to stay at home with Roscoe maybe a couple more weeks.  Today at work he woke from his nap and went outside.  He loves to play outdoors and I left him out there for a little while alone.  After about 15 minutes we heard him crying, and whining very loudly.  I jumped up to see what was wrong.  When I went outside he came running to me I picked him up, all 18 lbs. of him, and he had some kind of liquid drops on his head.  I touched it and it was sticky.  Upon further investigations we believe that Brody was sniffing around the humming bird feeder.  It's located in my parents back yard and is just a regular red feeder hanging on a pole.  We had recently moved it, and when we did it leaked and dripped a little.  So anyways, we think Brody was licking up the nectar that had spilled and while he was doing that some must have fallen on his head.  A hummingbird smelled or saw the nectar on his cute white head and went in for a taste.  This causing Brody some minimal pain which caused the whining, crying, and the running to find his mommy.  Once he realized he was going to live another puppy day he went back over to the feeder to see if any more of that yummy nectar had fallen so he could lick it up.  Puppy obedience classes start soon I sure hope he learns faster there!
